Manchester United have been made surprise favourites to sign Arsenal forward Theo Walcott following the Alexis Sanchez deal.
Sky Bet make Manchester United 6/4 favourites to be Theo Walcott's next destination before the summer transfer window shuts on September 2nd. Liverpool are second favourites at 2/1, with Manchester City out at 4/1.
Possible explanation?
Arsenal fans may be surprised to see the odds so short for the England international, but they've tumbled in the wake of the Gunners' capture of Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona.
Arsene Wenger signed the Chilean World Cup star earlier this month for a fee reported to be around the £32m mark. The lightning quick wide-man will compete with Walcott for a place in the Arsenal team when Walcott returns from injury.
Arsenal have an embarrassment of riches in the attacking midfield position following the Sanchez acquisition, so it would not be a massive surprise to see Wenger sell one of his first-team players.
At the moment he can call on Santi Cazorla, Mesut Ozil, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Lukas Podolski, Tomas Rosicky, Walcott, Jack Wilshere and Serge Gnabry.
So why United?
New United boss Louis Van Gaal is expected to re-shape his squad this summer, and a number of wingers already at the club could be set for the exit door. Bebe, Nani and Ashley Young are surplus to requirements, which would leave Antonio Valencia as the club's only specialist winger.
Walcott would add a different dimension to United's current options, namely Shinji Kagawa, Juan Mata, Wayne Rooney and Adnan Januzaj.
The Old Trafford giants have plenty of cash to spend, even in spite of splashing out £54m on Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw combined.
Liverpool
But so do the Reds, following the sale of Luis Suarez to Barcelona . Brendan Rodgers is expected to be extremely active between now and September and should Walcott become available, he's sure to consider him.
Despite the injury struggles, he remains one of the most uniquely gifted players in the game, and certainly a game-changing threat for a side with Champions League commitments
