Mikel Arteta to join Fiorentina from Arsenal?

Fiorentina are interested in Premier League pair Marouane Fellaini and Mikel Arteta, report the Daily Star. Manchester United midfielder Fellaini and Arsenal midfielder Arteta may both be surplus to requirements at their clubs, prompting links with the Serie A side.
The Star believe that Fellaini, who scored in Belgium’s 2-1 World Cup win over Algeria,  is Fiorentina’s main target, but that they are eyeing up Arteta as a plan b should their bid for the Belgium midfielder fail.
Fellaini joined United for £27.5 million last summer, but endured a first season disrupted by injury and poor form. Having been signed by – and become symbolic with much of what was wrong with – former boss David Moyes, Fellaini is currently in limbo as he waits to see if new boss Louis van Gaal will give him a chance next season. The 26-year old made 16 league appearances last season for United but failed to score a goal and created just five chances.
Should Van Gaal elect to keep Fellaini, then it is reported that Fiorentina will move onto Gunners midfielder Arteta. The Spaniard was a virtual ever-present last season, but looks likely to face stiffer competition next season with Arsene Wenger said to be scouring the market for a defensive midfielder.
This could shift the 32-year-old down the pecking order at The Emirates, leaving a move to Fiorentina a possibility.
