Newcastle United could get Costa Rica’s World Cup star Joel Campbell on loan next season as part of deal taking Mathieu Debuchy to Arsenal, according to reports.
Arsene Wenger has already confirmed that the 22-year-old will report for pre-season training with the Gunners, but he looks set to be loaned out for a fourth successive season.
The Gunners could offer a deal for Campbell to smooth over their efforts to sign France right-back Debuchy, reports the Evening Chronicle.
Arsenal sources reportedly say that a loan deal for defender Carl Jenkinson is another option, but the Magpies could yet insist on a cash-only deal.
Debuchy is currently on holiday after France’s World Cup quarter-final exit but progress on his switch to the Emirates is likely later this week.
Campbell has spent the last three seasons at Lorient, Real Betis and Olympiacos respectively having failed to obtain a UK work permit when he signed for Arsenal as a teenager in 2011.
While his international record means he is now eligible, he looks likely for one more season on loan.
West Ham, Everton and Southampton are all reported to be interested.
