Liverpool are set to beat Arsenal to another summer transfer target after moving in on Atletico Madrid defender Javier Manquillo.
It has become clear in the last week that the Merseyside club are to land Queens Park Rangers’ striker Loic Remy despite the Frenchman holding talks with Arsene Wenger.
And the Metro reports a similar pattern has followed with Manquillo who was tipped to join Arsenal on a season-long loan with a view to a permanent contract.
The 20-year-old was expected to act as cover to new signing Mathieu Debuchy at right-back with the future of Carl Jenkinson uncertain.
However, Manquillo was put off by the lack of playing time promised to him for next season and has now favoured a move to Anfield instead.
Liverpool are now negotiating a deal with Atletico for his services while Arsenal have turned their attention to Catania’s Gino Peruzzi instead.
Brendan Rodgers has already signed Rickie Lambert, Emre Can, Adam Lallana and Lazar Markovic this summer
