Do Arsenal need Loic Remy?
It has been reported this evening that Loic Remy is close to a move to Arsenal. This has been reported by the Mirror and known Arsenal journalist, John Cross. It is thought that the fee will be around £8 million and that seems decent value for a squad player – but do we really need him?
I wanted Remy at Arsenal in January. He was in decent form at Newcastle and we were struggling massively with a tired Giroud and no Walcott. We needed a pacey player for our front line who could play wide but also as a centre forward affording Giroud crucial resting time. However, we only needed that signing out of desperation. Now we have two months to bring in reinforcements and I believe we can do better than Remy as a forward signing.
It’s no secret now that we are close to the signing of Alexis Sanchez. He is able to play anywhere across the front three competently and is a far better player than Remy. We will also have Walcott back at around September who will offer pace and movement along with Sanchez. There doesn’t seem to be a niche in our team that Remy can fill.
Remy is not good enough to be our main choice striker at all and I don’t believe he’s as good as Giroud. We need to be looking at improving on Giroud rather than finding a backup. Remy is also 27 years old and is in his prime years. He won’t get any better.
Finally, the addition of Remy means the sale of Podolski and I personally believe the German is a more valuable asset to the squad because of the variety he adds.
I personally don’t want to sign Remy. I don’t really see the point of it. He adds nothing to the squad providing we sign Sanchez and we have enough money left over to be pursuing an improvement on Giroud.
