The Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker has been left out of the Germany starting XI again for their World Cup semi-final against Brazil. Maybe this should be a concern for Arsenal fans as well as the BFG himself. We have always known that Per was not the quickest over the ground, but has made up for it with his tactical awareness and reading of the game.
Maybe Arsene Wenger should be looking for a centre back with the German’s brain and experience but who also has the strength and speed that you need at the top level. Maybe our German centre back would be a better back-up option than a first choice. I doubt if he would react to that as badly as Thomas Vermaelen has.
Lukas Podolski also misses out in the starting line-up of Joachim Low, although that is not so much of a surprise. But the Arsenal striker could well see some action as Low has gone with Klose as a lone striker and the only realistic option to replace the aging striker is Podolski. I do hope he gets on the pitch.
Mesut Ozil starts, but from his unusual position as a wide midfielder. Maybe that will mean he appreciates his role at Arsenal all the more. Anyway, come on Germany!
