Alexis Sanchez has pointed to Arsene Wenger and the playing style at Arsenal as the reasons he decided to sign for the Gunners.
Arriving at the club on Thursday on a four year deal, the Chilean national had been linked with a move to Liverpool. Arsenal, who were working on bringing the Barcelona man to the Emirates before the World Cup kicked off, managed to secure the signing after Arsene Wenger met with Sanchez in Brazil.
Sanchez said
Arsenal plays very well, which fits my style. That is why I moved here. Arsene Wenger’s style of play is the sort of style the Chilean national team has, so therefore I am used to it. I know this club has a manager that looks after his players and takes care of them well. He wants to achieve great things in football and that helped me make the decision to sign for Arsenal.
While Arsenal fans are overjoyed at the arrival of a world class player just about to hit his prime, Barcelona fans are not quite so happy with their club. Speaking to the media, former striker Hristo Stoichkov slammed the club for allowing one of their best players to leave.
Sanchez is also happy to be the first Chilean to sign for Arsenal, adding I am certainly glad to be the first Chilean ever playing for Arsenal. The team not only plays really good football but the squad is really good and we can win silverware. We have a great squad and we are a big club. We can achieve big things. Sanchez is the second most expensive player in Arsenal’s history, behind Mesut Ozil who arrived last summer on deadline day. Arsenal are expected to confirm the signing of Mathieu Debuchy from Newcastle early next week for a much more modest fee of around £10m.
